Past Events - some short reports

Horspath Gardening Club
Sunday June 8th 2008. "Horspath in Bloom" - Horspath Gardens Open Day on Sunday 1:00 - 6:00 pm
21 lovely gardens were available to view, St Giles Church was open with a mass of floral arrangements and children’s artwork, there were teas, a tombola, a plant stall and a children’s competition. Admission was £4.00 (adults), all proceeds to St Giles Church, Horspath. We had superb weather and it was a splendid occasion for horticultural education and exchange of views and for socialising with friends. Congratulations to the organisers.

Horspath Parish Council
7th March 2008, Little Horspath defeats Oxford City Council
The Planning Inspector rejected the appeal by Oxford City Council for flood lighting on the grounds that the Athletics Ground Car Park was only given planning consent within the Green Belt on the grounds that it was an essential compliment to the Athletics Ground. Therefore, he concluded that other uses for the Car Park were inappropriate within the Green Belt. He also concluded that the lighting itself would represent a further urban encroachment into the rural character of the area which would undermine the separation of Horspath Village from Oxford City.
Thanks to the Representatives of Horspath PC, OGBN and CPRE for their excellent presentations and well done Villagers for your valuable support. Read the history of this saga. The full text of the Inspector's judgement is available in PDF format (57 Kb).

Village Tree Planting
Saturday and Sunday, 26th and 27th January 2008, 300 new trees (short bare-rooted whips) were planted by a goodly crew of village volunteers around the margins of the Bowley Field to thicken up the existing lines of trees and hedgerows, partly for improved screening between the village and the future new BMW body factory nearby which will be about 15 metres tall, partly to enhance the existing lines of trees as wildlife corridors, and partly to enhance the landscaping around the proposed new sports pitches. Please contact Horspath Village Events for further information.

Horspath Parish Council
What is Horspath Parish Council? and How does the Parish Council do its work? together with Parish Council Aims and Parish Council Projects are now available to view on the "Local Government" pages.
The Minutes for the Parish Council meeting held on Tuesday, 1st April 2008 at 8.00pm in the Village Hall are now available to view here in PDF format.
These documents and more are available in the Local Government area of our web site on the "Parish Council Agenda & Minutes" page. Members of the public are welcome to attend Parish Council meetings.

Oxford Green Belt Network
Monday 19th November 2007 at 7.30pm - The Annual General Meeting of the Oxford Green Belt Network took place at Marsh Baldon village hall. The brief formal business was followed by a discussion on the threat to the Green Belt. See the OGBN website for news of new Campaign "Hands off Our Green Belt".

Horspath Neighbourhood Watch
14 August 2007 Horspath's Neighbourhood Watch Scheme goes online! Check it out here.

Oxford Green Belt Way
Friday 13 July 2007. The CPRE Oxford Green Belt Way was opened by MP Boris Johnson at 2.30pm at Shotover Country Park. Boris Johnson then left for Henley, but a goodly company of about 70 people, including the Lord Mayor of Oxford and CPRE members, then walked down to Horspath. A reception at Horspath Village Hall followed. Everyone enjoyed the walk and had tea waiting for them at the Village Hall. Perhaps Mr Johnson left early to finalize his bid to be the next Mayor of London? (Well, we now know that he was successful!)

Vandals attack village tree
30 June - 1 July 2007 Vandals stripped the bark from a tree at the Recreation Ground. See the sad state of the tree.
