Welcome to Horspath Village

Horspath Village Allotments Project

Proposal recommended to the Diocese Glebe Committee on 12th May 2009 by the Diocese Director of Glebe and Buildings

The position is that the Diocese does not want to spend any money in reclaiming land for allotment use. Rents at £20 + VAT per plot (usually 10x4m) do not begin to cover the costs.

  • 1. The Diocese marks the boundary of the allotment garden with the adjoining field by installing a number of marker posts along said boundary.

  • 2. If the applicants wish to pursue reclaiming the disused allotment land then the Diocese will permit this. In addition to ploughing the area the paths and plots will need to be marked out.

  • 3. Once this has been done the Diocese will ask the Chartered Surveyors to let the individual plots. This will involve preparing and completing individual agreements with a sketch plan and collecting the first year's rent. Thereafter the Diocese will collect the rent itself and the Chartered Surveyors will be responsible for the management.

Essentially if those interested in allotment gardening are willing to prepare the ground the Diocese will let the plots.

At a site meeting with the GLM in early June 2009, the following points were confirmed:

  • 1. The Diocese marks the boundary of the allotment garden with the adjoining field by installing a number of marker posts along said boundary. This will be done fairly soon (but I don't know when).

  • 2. If the applicants wish to pursue reclaiming the disused allotment land then the Diocese will permit this. In addition to ploughing and or rotovating the area the paths and plots will need to be marked out.

  • 3. Once this has been done the Diocese will ask the Chartered Surveyors to let the individual plots. This will involve preparing and completing individual agreements with a sketch plan and collecting the first year's rent. Thereafter the Diocese will collect the rent itself and Sidleys will be responsible for the management.

Essentially if those interested in allotment gardening are willing to prepare the ground then the Diocese will let the plots. Rents will be £20 + VAT per plot (usually 10x4m), but as a concession rents will not be charged until March of 2010 to allow time for the plots to get established.

The GLM will organize a new gate into the area. We will share the existing gateway on Cuddesdon Road with the allotment area which is already cultivated.
